My Silos are not made of Concrete.
My Silos are Human Souls that grew from Festering  Wheat into Ashes.

The Blast of the Conscious

By Selim Mawad

“Our governments did this” and “Our silence shall absolve Our governments”.

Beirut Blast or Beirut Explosion – Neo-liberalism or Extreme Right
Criminal act or negligence
Fallen victims or martyrs, the reality remains the same. We were blasted.

The conscious of humanity, both nationally and internationally, was shaken by the magnitude of the crime. The TRUTH around the crime seems like a pregnancy in a delayed labour.
Humanity, Resilient enough to stand?
Are we Resilient enough to dare stand?

Once more the Phoenix rushed invisibly to the crime scene. Promises were made and a pact between the citizen and the infamous bird was made… We shall rise again.

Since time immemorial, the Phoenix burns and rises into ashes and costs us thousands of victims and fortunes.
The Phoenix must not rise above our corpses
The pact should be revised
The truth must be revealed
Our CONSCIOUS must be blasted, Wisdom exists in Trauma

Nitrate, 2020, acrylic on canvas, 152x170cm.

"We offered you nitrate instead of a Rose, oh Beirut"
In a catastrophe of biblical proportions, the city of corruption and decadence fell to ruin in a matter of seconds on a muggy August day. The Tower of Babylon imploded as the Arc of Noah pierced its innards and released the nitrate it had consumed for decades ... a blast, a massacre, an orgy, collective suicide? Beirut is a mass grave and has always been since its genesis.
For Beirut to rise again, it is imperative that we question our own actions. After all, it is us who have let the criminal political elite not only walk above the mass grave, but dance upon it. Beirut needs not a Rose.

Beirut Blast - Investigation. Acrylic on Canvas 204cm225cm

"And we turned you into a mass grave for every truth... Oh Beirut"

Two years after the blast of Beirut’s Harbour and the truth about those behind it is still deeply buried in the infernal underbelly of the city.  Politicians bury the truth deeper in the inferno of investigations and citizens fail to dig it out to the surface. The accountability of those behind assassinating the citizen seems to linger in the purgatory of the country of Cedars. Nor hell, neither heaven, only hibernation. Where is the Phoenix, where is the Citizen, where is the Revolution? Oh Beirut… Oh Pitiful Truth?
