Nitrate, 2020, acrylic on canvas, 152x170cm.

"We offered you nitrate instead of a Rose, oh Beirut"
In a catastrophe of biblical proportions, the city of corruption and decadence fell to ruin in a matter of seconds on a muggy August day. The Tower of Babylon imploded as the Arc of Noah pierced its innards and released the nitrate it had consumed for decades ... a blast, a massacre, an orgy, collective suicide? Beirut is a mass grave and has always been since its genesis.
For Beirut to rise again, it is imperative that we question our own actions. After all, it is us who have let the criminal political elite not only walk above the mass grave, but dance upon it. Beirut needs not a Rose.
